Privacy Notice
Before and Beyond Thirty — The Writers’ Room · Version 2026-10-26-v2 · Effective 26 October 2026
1. Who is responsible and how to contact us
Project organizer and privacy contact: Saddam Hussain, [email protected]. You may email without signing in for privacy, deletion, copyright or safety complaints. The in-site Support & feedback forms are an additional signed-in channel. This notice describes the current service; it is not a promise that every international law applies or that publication rights are granted by signing up.
2. Information and purposes
Account: email, display name, account identifier, password authentication information, approval/role and acceptance records are processed to create, secure and administer your account. Password authentication is handled by Supabase; passwords are not displayed to editors.
Writing: chapters, attachments, images, optional introduction/portrait/school house, revisions, sharing and attribution choices are stored to save, preview, export, share and review your work as you request.
Progress: shared/submitted word counts, credited names/pen names, selected house colours, badges and milestones support the public writers’ blackboard. Private chapter text is not displayed there. See the Website Terms for anonymous-credit behaviour.
Support: questions, issue/feedback messages, replies, status, account identifier and profile name are processed to respond to you and manage requests. Do not include passwords, sensitive documents or unnecessary personal details in support chat.
Consent: website terms/privacy version, your affirmative choices, account identifier, server time and acceptance source are retained to document your choices. Separate chapter-submission records also contain the consent name, account email, exact chapter/terms version and snapshot, optional portrait permission, server time and network IP as explained at submission. IP is supporting evidence, not proof of identity.
Technical: hosting, database, authentication and bot-protection providers process network IP, browser/device and request information for delivery, abuse prevention, security and service operation. The app also stores preferences, local progress, timer/music settings and rehearsal recordings on your browser/device. Necessary account processing is requested at signup or first acceptance; you can decline and use public pages instead.
3. Who can see information
Your sharing settings control ordinary chapter access: private to you; shared to approved contributors; submitted to approved editors. Authorized operation, maintenance, security, legal compliance and provider processing may require additional access. Editors can access contributor contact/approval details and private support requests, and download portraits from submitted chapters for editorial review. Download access is not permission to use a portrait on a cover. Portraits may also appear in your account button and introduction. Public visitors can see the limited progress board and public site material; they cannot obtain private manuscript text, account emails or consent receipts from the board. Sharing outside the project or downloading exports creates copies we cannot automatically recall.
4. Service providers, international processing and embeds
Supabase supplies authentication, database and private file storage. Cloudflare supplies website hosting and Turnstile bot verification; verification loads on account forms. Tawk.to supplies optional live support chat in a separate embedded support panel; it is given the signed-in profile name when you open it, not automatic access to manuscript text. Private issue/feedback forms use the project database. YouTube embeds/contact links connect to Google/YouTube; embedded video can process device/network information and use its own storage even when playback begins muted. Google Fonts supplies site fonts. These providers may process data outside your country, including outside India, under their service arrangements. We do not promise India-only storage. Provider privacy information is linked below. Optional embeds may load when the relevant feature/page is opened; a full optional-embed consent manager has not yet been implemented.
5. Photos, publication and optional permissions
Providing a portrait is optional; you may write without one. Upload only an image you are entitled to share. It may appear with your chapter’s enabled introduction and in exports. Book inclusion is governed by the separately accepted Contributor Agreement. Cover artwork and promotion require its separate optional portrait permission, which is unticked by default. Refusing cover permission does not prevent chapter submission. No blanket marketing, face recognition, voice cloning or AI-training consent is obtained through signup. The on-device avatar appearance does not replace the original portrait in the chapter.
6. Recordings
On-demand rehearsal recording uses the microphone only after your action and browser permission. Rehearsal takes currently remain on your device; deleting browser storage can remove them. Exporting or deliberately sending a take is your separate action. Website terms alone do not authorize an audiobook release. Do not include third-party music unless you have the necessary rights.
7. Retention, security and your requests
Account and working files are retained while needed to run the project and provide your account, unless a justified deletion request or legal obligation requires otherwise. The contributor Delete account flow removes the sign-in identity/profile, working drafts/revisions, released-chapter archives, in-site support requests, account website-acceptance entries and public progress; it releases claims without removing the topic library. Files not covered by a separately accepted submission are deleted through the storage service. Exact consented submission snapshots and their referenced assets remain restricted to approved editors in publication-rights records. This is not a new cover permission. A minimal pseudonymous deletion receipt/status is kept for completion verification and support. Editor accounts need assisted project handover. The flow asks for a fresh password sign-in and explicit confirmation and can be retried if interrupted; deletion cannot be cancelled after it starts. This browser’s account-specific notes/preferences and rehearsal recordings are cleared where possible. Copies on other devices, downloaded exports, third-party Tawk chat history and provider backups/logs are not instantly erased by this control; contact us for a separate erasure review. Removing a photo from a current draft also does not erase every historical copy. Publication licences, submitted snapshots and consent evidence may be retained as long as reasonably necessary to establish rights, resolve disputes or meet law, even after account closure. We do not promise immediate removal from provider backups or previously distributed books. Ask us for the applicable retention details for your records.
We use restricted database/storage access, authentication and other safeguards; no internet service is risk-free. Report suspected unauthorized access promptly. We will assess incidents and communicate/remedy them as required by applicable law.
You can ask for access, correction, export, erasure, a privacy complaint review, or withdrawal of consent-based processing at the email above. We may verify ownership without asking for your password. Withdrawal can mean the account service can no longer be provided; it does not retrospectively invalidate lawful processing or automatically revoke a separate publication licence. Applicable statutory rights, complaint routes and lawful retention obligations prevail. Consent to optional cover/promotion use can be discussed separately before new uses.
8. Adults, updates and choices
Accounts are limited to adults aged 18 or older. If information about a child was uploaded by mistake, contact us. We do not knowingly invite child accounts. Material changes to account processing will be explained and fresh consent requested where required. This notice does not authorize unrelated advertising or mailing-list use. You may use the public pages without creating a writing account.
